Any HR pros working in retail over the holiday weekend? Anyone have employee-related BLACK FRIDAY horror stories?

Leave 'em here. We are curious about how HR pros and employees behave when the pressure mounts and management wants you to move lots of merchandise. Also, how do you deal with customer complaints at a retail store on Black Friday? Any unreasonable customer stories? We'd love to hear those, too!

Ok, so I spent the first 2/3rds of my career working for retailers (Macy's, Century 21, Limited Inc.) first in operations and then in HR. I have the corner on war stories....I started as an exec trainee out of grad school with Macy's and finished as a Sr. exec in HR at the Limited (NY and Co...).... I have seen it all...I had a customer spit at one of my employees...hit her in the face, for not taking a return back at Macy's, at Century 21 i had a customer tell me she was getting a film crew from CBS television because we did not get a pair of shoes that were special ordered in on time for a wedding she was going too...I had a transvestite make a scene that we would not let him/her into the fitting room at a Lerner NY store in Atlanta, I had a "Wicken" ( I was informed that is a witch) in New orleans threaten to put a spell on the assistant mgr. for not honoring a mismarked price on a pair of jeans....I spent every thanksgiving weekend working for 14 yrs...All issues were resolved with listening and a firm response, the spitter we just called security and had the cops take her away in handcuffs...
I am probably boring you but I will tell you most people are actually nice, when you treat them nice...Its the occassional crazy that grabs the headlines and the memorable stories... I don't miss working this weekend anymore...I got to play tennis today and study for the gphr exam...tomorrow I am running errands and going to a wedding (would have been immpossible working for a retailer)...I will say that I learned alot working in retail and loved HR at the Limited...you learn to make quick decisions and think on your feet... 2 of my 3 sr. reports currently come out of retail as well and they will say the same thing...they are glad they are out, but they learned alot and have good skills as a result....There are alot of things worse then spending 14 hours a day in a retail store over the holidays///
