Personally, i think that the HR Certifications (PHR, SPHR, GPHR) should  become mandatory. I have an MBA in HR and i am still studying to take the PHR in December. I support this theory because every other profession (MD, CPA, JD, etc) confers a certain status on people who have demonstrated that they understand the body of knowledge needed for their profession. This measurability should be  the same for the HR profession.

Hi Debbie,
This is an interesting thought by you. Could you please help me know what are the renowned institutions offering these certifications?

Nitesh
Here is the Website....it is subsidiary of Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM)

This is an interesting idea Debbie. I am sure there are some people who are already working in HR departments, but may not have the certification. The challenge for them might be studying while trying to juggle other life commitments. Seems like you’ve got that nailed down! Kudos to you!

We have an online human resources certificate program that helps folks get prepared for SHRM certification.
I perfectly agree with you thoughts. I was a qualified industrial psychologist who moved into the human resources management and certified as CHRP and SPHR. There are currently too many people practising HR who have no basic training, some are successful, others are huge failures who tarnish the reputation of HR professionals. Certification - should be mandatory, as the management of human resources is becoming increasingly complex with legislative requirements. For example in California, legal or certified human resources professionals are the only professionals allowed to conduct compliant harassment training.
