What does "compliance" make you think of?

I work for a company that provides many services that are regulated under some arm form compliance- from employment eligibility verification to use of arrest records to drug screening practices to EEO and OFCCP hiring practices, and on and on and on. I woke up today thinking about writing a blog post (jasonblais.com is my wordpress blog if you're interested in taking a look) about compliance and Human Resources.  A while back I had posited that compliance should truly be pulled from HR's…See More

4 thoughts on hiring during the holidays

As we move into November and the holiday season is close at hand, it seemed like a good time to share some First Friday thoughts specific to the realm of talent acquisition. For the decade or so that I’ve beenworking with HR and recruiting leaders, it has been my experience thatthis time of year normally presents a slowdown our stoppage inrecruiting activities, as many are holding off on their budgets until2011 or simply don’t want to overburden an already busy holiday schedulewith…See More

Recruit Smarter : Cust Costs

According to SHRM’s Leading Indicators of National Employment (LINE) survey report earlier this month, the number of companies hiring in October increased more than 11% over October 2009. This is one of the first indicators that companies are beginning to loosen their belts when it comes toadding staff. Based on historical cycles of open job requisitions, there’s a good chance that…See More

What is your HR area of expertise?
Consulting with HR on employment brand building to attract better talent. I've written and developed seminars on internet recruiting which have been certified by HRCI, and I focus my energy on helping HR Directors take back control of their recruiting. People are the most fundamental piece of any company, and hiring the right people makes all the difference in the world. Like Jim Collins said in Good To Great- People aren't your best or most important asset- the RIGHT people are.

no
Why do you work in Human Resources?
I work in the HR space because I respect and value people. Okay, that does sound a bit corny, but it really is the truth. I am a passionate believer that at it's core, any business is merely a group of people working toward a shared goal. Collectively, the activities of attracting, managing, leading, training, retaining, and valuing employees has the biggest effect on a business's ability to be successful. I have written and presented numerous HRCI seminars focused on talent acquisition and branding, and continue to find opportunities for personal and professional development through my HR connections.

Recruiters, Are You Still Fishing in an Aquarium?

Since I was born, I have never lived in a house, apartment, or dorm that didn't have a full size, hard cover copy of Roget's Thesaurus. My grandmother was a stickler for using proper grammar, and passed that down to my mother, and on to my brother and I (just kidding! ...and me). Along the way, an attention to spelling and the origins of words were folded into my family's values. I'm the guy that buys the Dictionary of the Future and the Greatest Speeches in American History books so cleverly… Continue
